In the 2000s, Seiko developed the mid-range Cal. 6R movement, based on its standard models, as a successor to the older thin-type Cal. 4S, which had some maintenance challenges.

One of the earliest models to feature this new movement was the SARB005.

The SARB001–SARB011 series was known as the “Retro Modern” collection, characterized by colorful dials reminiscent of watches from the 1970s. Among them, models 001, 003, and 005, which feature cut sapphire glass, stand out with an especially strong retro-modern aesthetic and maintain their beautiful cut over time—making them highly popular models.
